Websites are now seen as a must-have for all businesses. Browsing and searching the internet is a daily activity for most people, and competition can be fierce. Among many other strategies to get high rankings in Google and a website that sells is content. Yup, content is still king. What good is a "brochure-ware" site to visitors if the content is outdated? People go there once - maybe twice, but would never return as the site is static and boring.
What you need is a way to keep your site fresh and full of information visitors come for. Although you could get a web designer or developer to make the changes for you, it will be a costly excersize over time. And out of experience most site owners updating content this way collect the content and hand it all over to the web developer in clumps trying to save money. This defeats the purpose of keeping content fresh.
So what is the solution you ask? Answer: A Content Managment System (CMS). Ok, you may have heard of CMS Websites before, and you may have owned a CMS website which you try to avoid using. There are many pre-built CMS solutions out there, some are good and a lot aren't that good. I would say there are three categories; Third Party such as Joomla CMS; Template editing software such as Adobe Contribute; and Custom built CMS websites.
Shortly I will post a compareson table of these main categories, but in short our clients have found most 3rd party Content Managment Systems to be too difficult to use, and not intuitive enough. Most cases there is simply too much to handle. Template editing software requires you to use the one computer to edit the site, plus you cannot use the power of a database driven site to gather information and display it accordingly. Custom built CMS web sites are good in many cases (depends on the developer and budget), but lack the support of the wider community and hence ease of expandability. Also, what happens if the developer went away? Some other poor web developer would need to decifer the code in order to make changes.
With this in mind, we started asing our clients what they want in a Content Management System. And the resoonse was to give them the power of the pre-made CMS systems, but make it easy to use. So we did. We grabbed one of the World's, if not the World's most powerful Content Management System used by respected organisations such as Nike, Greenpiece and even Google sub sites and customised it to be simple. In fact, we are constantly updating it to make it so intuitive that most people don't even need to be taught how to use it.
We call this KOBO CMS v1.1. These are some of the benefits you will get:
